The terms and conditions and guidelines of AdSense allow publishers to place up to 3 ad units per page and up to 3 links units. Generally, with this maximum number of allowed units publisher can maximize the number of clicks ad units which ultimately increases CTR and revenue.
While it also may make sense to have more than three ad units (for example, if website have a page with a very huge amount of content), and such pages may be able to display more than three ad units comfortably. Good news is, AdSense does allow its partners to put more ad units from other ad networks simultaneously but still there are some limitations.
As per the guidelines, publishers are not allowed to use ads from other networks that look like AdSense units, which simply mean that you are allowed to use In-text, In-Image, In-video, Content and Affiliate ads. If your site is able to handle more than three ad units without compromising user experience (i.e., overwhelming visitors with ads), you might want to supplement Adsense.
In this post I will focus upon some unique style of best and highest paying Ad networks, which can be combined with Adsense to boost website Ad revenue.
Media.net is basically a contextual ad network run by a partnership between Bing and Yahoo!, two of biggest competitors of Google. Media.net functions in the same way as AdSense, and offers many similar options but the appearance of these ads is entirely different from Adsense. Media.net provides standard ad sizes (e.g., 300×250, 728×90 etc.) as well as contextual link units that direct to “landing pages” of targeted ads. These units are customized in such a way that they look like a part of your website content.
Infolinks is another unique kind of ad network that provide so called “smart ads,” with their most simple solution involving showing of ads when users hover their mouse cursor over linked content, so basically it’s an In-Text advertising platform. Infolinks also provides “skinned” ads that fill the empty space at the right and left of a site’s content (In-Frame Ads), as well as text links that can be provided within content.
Many sites use Infolinks right along AdSense. Infolinks is also known as the best alternative of adsense that can be combined with Adsense. Whereas AdSense monetizes the space on your site specifically to put display advertising, Infolinks is designed in such manner to make money by making the text on your site into ad units. The best thing is, you are providing ads to visitors without occupying any space on webpage.
Outbrain is a special ad network that has publishers on both sides of the payment equation that means In this ad network publisher are advertisers those are looking for more relevant traffic on their website. Outbrain is responsible for many of the “sponsored content” sections you may see around the web, in which publishers pay to put links to their content featured on other sites as “Recommended widget”. When a user clicked these links, the referring site gets some revenue while the destination website gets a new visitor and pays for it.
Outbrain ads are located pretty far down on webpage, and earning through such ads is much lower than traditional banner ad units placed above the fold. Still it can be an effective way to get incremental ad income from visitors who would leave the site otherwise once they’ve reached at the bottom of the page.To use it, publishers need to provide a section of their site dedicated to put sponsored content widget by Outbrain.
